About the Youth Research Gathering
The Youth Research Gathering is a five-day gathering in Iqaluit created for Nunavut youth to explore research, share ideas, and build meaningful connections grounded in Inuit perspectives and experiences.
Taking place August 10–14, 2026, the gathering brings together youth ages 18–30 from across Nunavut to learn about community-driven and Inuit-led approaches to research through workshops, discussions, interactive activities, and time together on the land. Participants connect with peers, mentors, Elders, and researchers while exploring how research can support wellness, strengthen communities, and create positive change across Nunavut.
Throughout the gathering, participants have opportunities to apply their learning by providing feedback on current research and helping identify priorities for future youth health and wellness research in Nunavut.
Travel, accommodations, meals, and local transportation are provided for participants. A per diem supports personal expenses during the gathering, and an honorarium recognizes participants’ time, contributions, and engagement throughout the week.
The Youth Research Gathering welcomes participants with a wide range of interests and experiences. Whether participants are already interested in research or simply curious to learn more, every voice and perspective contributes to building research that reflects the realities and strengths of Nunavut youth.
The gathering values and celebrates the diversity of Nunavut youth and welcomes participants from all communities, backgrounds, and lived experiences, including members of 2SLGBTQ+ communities and persons with visible and invisible disabilities.
