Graduate students and early career researchers who want to learn about doing research in Inuit communities (Nunavut/Inuit Nunangat).

Course Description:
Qaujisarnirmut Pilimmaqsarniq Research Week is an immersive five-day graduate-level certificate course designed to provide graduate students and early career researchers with a comprehensive understanding of Inuit research methods, Western research skills, and personal and professional development. This course integrates Inuit research methodologies, Western research approaches, and Inuit ways of knowing to equip participants with the necessary tools to conduct culturally sensitive and impactful research within Inuit communities. Through a combination of lectures, workshops, and hands-on activities, participants will engage in interdisciplinary learning, foster critical thinking skills, and enhance their research capabilities.

Course Objectives:

1. To develop a deep understanding of Inuit research methodologies and their application within academic and community settings.
2. To acquire essential Western research skills, including data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
3. To explore personal and professional development strategies for career advancement in research and academia.
4. To promote ethical research practices and cultural sensitivity in working with Indigenous communities.
5. To foster collaboration, networking, and knowledge exchange among participants and guest speakers.

Throughout the course, participants will engage in hands-on activities, group discussions, case studies, and collaborative projects to apply course concepts in real-world research scenarios. Guest speakers, including Elders and experts from Inuit communities and academic institutions, will provide insights and facilitate meaningful dialogue on the integration of Western and Inuit epistemologies in research practice. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a graduate-level certificate in Inuit research methods and Western research skills.
